Tax deed sales moving online

STAFF REPORT

SARASOTA COUNTY –– Karen Rushing, Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller, recently announced that tax deed sales will now be conducted online through a secure tax deed property auction service.

A tax deed sale is the process of selling real property at public auction to recover delinquent property taxes, and the cost of bringing the property to auction. The delinquent property is sold to the highest bidder, with the winning bid used to bring the past-due taxes current.

This web based-service, similar to the Sarasota online foreclosure property sales product, removes geographical barriers and offers the bidding opportunity to a wider audience. Online auctions are more convenient and streamline the tax deed sales process. Once the registration criteria is met, interested bidders will no longer be required to visit the Clerk and Comptroller’s office in person to participate in tax deed sales.

Auctions may be scheduled Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, starting at 9 a.m. Online training is provided to learn how to use the auction website; simply register for a date and time that works for you. This service also offers the opportunity to review relevant tax deed information remotely, at your convenience.
