Sarasota County commissioners get visualization tool

SARASOTA –– With news breaking hourly about COVID-19 restrictions and no state-wide orders in place, county commissioners got a tool yesterday so they can visualize what is in place county by county.

Developed by a staffer in the county administration office using the Tableau Public software, the tool enables commissioners to click on a map to see the status of any county in the state.

Another click will bring up the orders for that particular county.

For example, clicking on Charlotte County, which has a stay-at-home order, then clicking on document county commissioners can see the press release from the county with the details regarding that order.

The link to reach the tool, which is viewable by the public on any device is https://public.tableau.com/profile/scg6651#!/vizhome/RestrictionsbyCounty/CountyMap.

County Administrator Jonathan Lewis sent the tool to commissioners by e-mail shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 31. He indicated that staff will continue to update the data as it becomes available, unless “it becomes unmanageable.”
