COVID-19 affects jury service, tax deed sales

Florida State Seal

Karen Rushing, clerk of the circuit court and comptroller for Sarasota County, has announced a couple of changes due to the COVID-19 crisis.

First, pursuant to an administrative order from the Florida Supreme Court, all jury trials in the state have been suspended through May 29. Anyone who received a jury summons between the weeks of March 19 through May 29 may ignore it.

Essential proceedings like arraignments, bond hearings, and hearings for protective orders will continue.

Secondly, tax deed sales scheduled for today and May 5, have been rescheduled to Thursday, June 25, at 9 a.m.

Rushing also announced that in accordance with the court’s schedule her office will be closed to the public this Friday, April 10.
