The Sarasota Journal is locally owned and a community-based independent news source. Formed in March, 2020, our publisher, Warren Richardson, is a reporter and editor with over 25 years of experience spent living in the area and covering government and community issues in Sarasota, Charlotte, and surrounding counties. He also spent years working for the Sarasota County government’s communications division, so there is no lack of local experience and knowledge of the issues that impact the region.
When cuts to a local paper’s staffing threatened the quality and quantity of coverage, he and his wife decided to create a resource to help fill that need. You deserve to know what’s going on in your county government, and that coverage best comes from people with intimate understandings of the issues that impact you directly.
